About Selam
Selam Foundation is a nonprofit, faith-based community organization established to serve, educate, empower, and bring people together. Rooted in Islamic values and inspired by a commitment to service, Selam Foundation has grown through the dedication of volunteers, families, community leaders, and supporters who believe in building a stronger community for current and future generations.

Since its establishment, Selam Foundation has worked to preserve Islamic faith and identity, strengthen families, support youth, provide educational opportunities, assist people in need, and build bridges among diverse communities.
Faith. Community. Service. Future.
Our story
Selam Foundation began with a simple but important vision: to create a welcoming place where Muslims could worship, learn, serve, and grow together.
For many years, the Foundation operated from rented facilities in Northern Virginia. From those modest beginnings, the community developed programs including weekly Jumu’ah prayer, Qur’an and Arabic education for children and youth, halaqas for brothers and sisters, Ramadan programs, and social and cultural activities.
At the same time, Selam Foundation looked beyond the walls of its local community. Through partnerships, fundraising, humanitarian initiatives, and community mobilization, the Foundation supported people facing hardship both locally and abroad.
As the community grew, so did the need for a permanent home.
With the generosity and determination of the community, Selam Foundation acquired approximately two acres of land in Alexandria, Virginia, to establish a permanent mosque and community center.
Today, Selam Foundation continues developing the Selam Mosque and Community Center as a place for worship, education, youth development, family activities, community service, and connection.

Mission
Our mission is to nurture a strong, knowledgeable, compassionate, and connected Muslim community through faith, education, service, and collaboration.
We strive to provide an environment where children can develop a strong Islamic identity, youth can find guidance and belonging, families can grow together, and community members can worship, learn, serve, and support one another.
Vision
We envision a thriving community grounded in faith, knowledge, service, compassion, and mutual respect.
Our long-term vision is for the Selam Mosque and Community Center to become more than a building. It will be a home for worship, a center for learning, a safe and welcoming space for young people, a resource for families, and a place where neighbors and communities can come together.
We want our children and grandchildren to inherit an institution they are proud to call their own—one that strengthens their Islamic identity while preparing them to become responsible, compassionate, and contributing members of society.

Masjid & community center
What began in rented spaces has grown into a shared effort to establish a permanent home on approximately two acres in Alexandria, Virginia.
The planned Selam Mosque and Community Center is envisioned to support prayer, Qur’an and Islamic education, youth programs and counseling, family and community gatherings, a library, meeting and conference spaces, and other services that respond to the evolving needs of the community.
This project is not simply about constructing a building. It is about building people, strengthening families, preserving faith and identity, serving humanity, and leaving a lasting legacy for generations to come.
